CANDLE FILTER

CANDLE FILTER

The conventional filter for solid-liquid filtration is very cumbersome to operate and to maintain. The filter cloth has to be scrubbed for cleaning. The entire assembly will have to be opened out every time for washing, resulting in the surrounding area becoming dirty. The operation and maintenance of this unit is labour oriented. Also the scrubbing of cloth every time results in reducing the quality of cloth (increase in slot opening). All has lead to the design of a Candle Filter wherein the cleaning operation is done in a closed circuit.

Candle Filter is basically a polishing filter working under pressure. The filter works in surface filtration & Clean in Place filtration principle. The filter consisting of a number of candles arranged vertically inside a pressure vessel. Each candle consists of six nos. of slotted tubes arranged above a seamless tube with top & bottom compartment. Each candle is covered with filter cloth. The special contour of the candle ensures excellent backwashing/ blow back for cleaning the candle.

The candle sizes have been standardized for the purpose of ease in maintenance. However, depending upon the flow rate of the filtrate, the number of candles are increased or decreased to give the desired results. The Candle Filter has proved to be the best replacement for the Sparkler Filter.

It is ideally suited for filtration, cake washing, draining & cake discharge. It is suitable for both direct filtration & precoat filtration. Using the candle filter unfiltered cake can be collected as a slurry discharge or as dry discharge based on the characteristic of the liquid & solid.

FEATURES & ADVANTAGES

  • More cake holding capacity for the same area compared to other pressure filters.
  • Cleaner surroundings due to clean in place filtration.
  • Complete operator safety as all filtration operations carried out in closed conditions.
  • Least down time of the filter due to backwashing.
  • Longer life of the filter element because of in situ cleaning.
  • Complete automation possibility.
  • No moving parts. Therefore less maintenance and reduced spare parts requirements.
